Bush recently stated that the US is on the verge of some startling energy technology breakthroughs.
“Saying the nation is on the verge of technological breakthroughs that would “startle” most Americans, President Bush on Monday outlined his energy proposals to help wean the country off foreign oil….
One of Bush’s proposals would expand research into smaller, longer-lasting batteries for electric-gas hybrid cars, including plug-ins. He highlighted that initiative with a visit Monday to the battery center at Milwaukee-based auto-parts supplier Johnson Controls Inc.”
My first thought when reading this was — it’s about time! The second was curiosity as to what this “startling” bit was all about. What I am startled about is that we’ve found ways to put men on the moon but still haven’t realized the full potential or the wide scale conversion and use of alternative fuels.
Sure there is money to be tapped into on the current system and riding the profits up to the top of a crisis but why there hasn’t been a harder push for this earlier is beyond me. I guess it takes terrorism and mind-numbing explosive growth in Asia to bring pressure to bear on the overall industry.
We’ll be updating more often on this topic as it develops. That’s all for now.
