And the Number 1 Selling Full-Size Truck in America Is…

The best selling truck in America is the Ford F-150! Right?

Wrong. Sort of.

According to PickupTrucks.com, the Chevy Silverado 1500 beat out the F-150 in sales through June by a score of 119,959 units to 107,778.

That’s a big deal, considering General Motors is going through bankruptcy and Ford is not. However, bankruptcy could skew the numbers, since Chevy dealers have had to make great deals to move trucks that the General’s been offering with interest-free 72-month financing.

Still, though, this is the second victory for GM over Ford, as their Camaro beat out the Mustang in June muscle car sales.

It’s like we’re living in some kind of bizarro world when a bankrupt company threatens Ford’s pickup and muscle car supremacy.

On the positive side for Ford, though, the entire F-Series line (including the F-150, F-250 Super Duty, and F-350 Super Duty) is nearly 24,000 units ahead of the Silverado series, meaning Ford gets to keep its “Best Selling Pickup Line in America” title.

On the positive side for both GM and Ford, they took market share away from Toyota and Nissan full-size trucks, as Nissan’s Titan has sold only 8,804 units and Toyota’s Tundra isn’t far ahead at 36,106 units.

The numbers prove that Americans still love their full-size pickups, and GM’s bankruptcy woes could even be helping sales. At least for now.

Will the Silverado 1500 continue to beat out the Ford F-150 in sales numbers? Which do you think is the better truck?

    The manufacturers only release the combined sales within their series correct? (eg. combined Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500…)

    The 1/2 ton truck sales mentioned by pickuptrucks.com are actually an estimate by JD Powers. You have to wonder what the actual figures are. 119K and 107K are awfully close for the first 6 months of the year – could JD Power estimates be off by 5% for each manufacturer? Will we ever know the truth??

    Add All The F-Series Together, and they are #1. Ford Has 24,000 More Units Sold than Silverado Series.

    its not ford vs chevy. its ford vs gmc. chevy is not the motor company, gm is. ford combines all f-series trucks together 150-250-350 all the way to f650. if you look at gms sales they beet ford all day long for over 80 years. learn to read between the lines. ford is number 4 in auto sales, not even close to GMC and never will. grow up ford boy. ford cant even make a good motor. they have yamaha and mazda and shelby make em. great company. you can have them.

    Chevy is also the in the leading for most repairs needed!! Cheap gm has the frames made in Mexico!!! For all chevy lovers don’t get into any kind of collision your frame will buckle!!! Ford is more durable and will hold their value alot better than a chevy or gmc! That’s why the ford f series is still number one sold! And one more thing ford also didn’t have to get a bail out from the government!! General motors did. So y’all chevy lovers can bite my bippy!!!!

    @cole
    If GM were selling more that would be big news. Everyone knows Ford has the #1 truck for 35 years !! When GM sales are #1 we won’t need Google to find that out.

    You can tell how old a chevy is by the # of engines installed. “My truck has 125,00 miles and is only on the 3rd engine” Lol
