High Speed Fun From Aston Martin and Nissan
I could use a hefty dose of speed after a slow-moving, mostly cathartic, heavy eating though seriously enjoyable Christmas. While I should probably hit the treadmill and turn the speed up to 11, I’m gonna write about fast cars instead. Really fast cars. In fact, two of the cars I’m most fascinated with right now are making news: The Aston Martin One-77 and the Infiniti Essence.
Neither is officially on sale. Only the Aston is entering production in its current form. But that doesn’t mean we have to stop dreaming, right?
The One-77 is being tested in a super-secret location and during speed tests, managed to crack the 220-mph barrier. To be exact, 220.007 miles per hour. While that won’t take the title of world’s fastest car away from the Ultimate Aero TT (256.18 mph), that’s still one fast Aston. It’s gorgeous, too. Only 77 copies will be hand made, with deliveries expected to begin in mid-2010. I can still dream that someone will drop a cool $2 million so I can have one.
That’s not what excites me, though. The new GT-R hybrid could use the same twin-turbocharged V6 used in the stunning Infiniti Essence concept. Plus, take a look at the rendering to the right. See the Essence-inspired design? Holy smokes, friends, you’re telling me I could potentially get my paws on automotive art like that for $100K, have some 195-mph fun on the pavement, and still see 25-30 mpg? Never mind the $2 million Aston. I’ll just use a picture of it as a screensaver, save myself $1.9 million, and drive something that looks even better.
I think Nissan/Infiniti has out-designed Aston Martin on this one. Agree?
