Cars Coming Soon: SRT Viper, Jaguar F-Type, BMW M6
We live in the best age ever for automobiles. Never before have so many exceptional vehicles been available from so many automakers.
Yes, I wish more diesel varieties were available here, but if we have to take what we get, we might as well enjoy the high-horsepower buffet.
And BMW, Jaguar and Dodge (well, SRT) have plans to let us indulge our power addiction with a new M6, F-Type and Viper.
The BMW M6 convertible will use a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 under the hood. Good for 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque and mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the drop-top should be able to launch to 62 mph in around 4.1 seconds. All that viciousness will cost $113,995 to start and be available in June.
The Jaguar C-X16 concept will make production as the F-Type and slot below the XK-Series. That’s certainly good news for those of us who crave Jag’s good looks but want something slightly less expensive. The F-Type will launch as a two-seat roadster in 2013 with the possibility of a coupe coming later.
If you’ve missed the Dodge Viper, the wait is officially over. The 2013 version, christened as the SRT Viper (which will take a while to get used to), appears to be everything Viper fans have hoped for: 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque from an 8.4-liter V10 and the best power-to-weight ratio of any Viper ever built. All without turbochargers or superchargers of any kind.
The new Viper gains rigidity, fully defeatable stability and traction control systems and a more luxurious interior than ever before. In fact, the seats are from the same supplier Ferrari uses. Being owned by Italians certainly has its perks!
Which of these would look best in your garage: BMW M6, Jaguar F-Type or SRT Viper?
