The Glorious Cars of James Bond
Aston Martin vehicles have become synonymous with James Bond. The films are as much about the cars as they are about the girls, the chase scenes and the action sequences.
In fact, the cars have played a part in nearly every major scene of every Bond film ever made. Even the original novels featured classic Bentley cars. On the big screen, Aston has played a huge part, as well as guest-starring roles by BMW, Lotus and Toyota.
What are the coolest cars to be seen in Bond films?
Well, I vote for any of the modern Aston Martins, but keep reading for some other choices.
Mercury Cougar – On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
My dad had a ’67 Cougar when I was a kid. I’m still in love with that car, and for one to star in the ultimate car flick is like seeing your girlfriend in the Pirelli calendar. It’s a proud moment.
Lotus Esprit – The Spy Who Loved Me
It leaps off a pier after a chase scene and then goes on an underwater boat chase. Only in a Bond movie!
Toyota 2000GT Roadster – You Only Live Twice
A pretty female agent doing some hot driving in a Toyota roadster that never really existed. Awesome.
BMW Z8 – The World Is Not Enough
If an Aston isn’t going to be used, a suitable BMW should replace it. The Z8 is suitable. Well, it was, until it got sliced in two by a helicopter.
Aston Martin DBS – Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace
The greatest Aston ever. I don’t even care that the movies were terrible compared with Bond films of the past.
Sign me up for opening night.
