New Mazda6 Makes Used Ones Seem Obsolete

September 3rd, 2013

2014 Mazda6

Attention Mazda owners: Drop what you’re doing, grab your checkbook and head back to your dealer. Your car just became obsolete.

It’s not often that I’m so taken by a new car that I suddenly believe all former versions are no longer driveable. The 2014 Mazda6, though, might be the car that redefines Mazda and makes an older Mazda6 just another cheap used midsize sedan.

That’s saying a lot, because I happen to think a used Mazda6 is one of the best buys on the market today.

The new one, though, might change everything.

LA Auto Show Delivers Fuel Efficiency and Raw Power

November 30th, 2012

2014 Jaguar XFR-S

One in 10 new cars sold in the United States is registered in California.

That’s quite the statistic and justifies the importance of the Los Angeles Auto Show to automakers. With the unveilings officially under way in Southern California, it’s time to take a look at the most exciting, potentially game-changing vehicles that have debuted so far.

The show this year is an interesting representation of the different directions the car industry is getting pushed. Cars powered by gasoline, electricity and diesel are represented, along with plenty of raw performance cars that somehow manage to take decent fuel economy into account while shredding tires and blistering the pavement.

Read on for more.

Favorite Cars from the Paris Motor Show… So Far

September 28th, 2012

2014 Jaguar F-Type

Everyone knew the Paris Motor Show would be a delightful blend of new technology, new concepts and revealed production cars.

Porsche surprised us yesterday with the plug-in hybrid Panamera Sport Turismo Concept, but other automakers are ready to make an impact on the international car market, too.

A 73-mpg non-hybrid concept was unveiled, along with a new sports car destined to be a classic, a sleek good-looking car for the family, the supercar of supercars and some fun improvements to an inexpensive RWD coupe.

Keep reading for just a few of the highlights from Paris so far!

Cars Coming Soon: All-New 2014 Mazda6

July 26th, 2012

2014 Mazda6

I like it when teaser pictures reveal everything.

A typical teaser image of a coming vehicle is a vague, blacked-out silhouette or just the line from the hood to the trunk. Other teasers show an extreme close-up of a taillight or a fender flare and hope the image pacifies the public before the car’s official debut. Sometimes teasers show no parts of the car at all. I remember a teaser for the new Ford Explorer that showed only a snow-covered forest.

The 2014 Mazda6 has some teaser images floating around, most of which do a lot more than tease. In fact, they show a nearly full reveal of what’s to come. Keep reading to see the pictures, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Among Stiffer Competition, Honda Admits Unsatisfactory Sales

April 9th, 2012

I’ve been Honda’s biggest fan since high school. My first car, a gunmetal gray 1985 Accord, was solid, reliable, comfortable and could escort me and seven of my closest friends to and from school in relative ease. (Stacking eight people into a 5-seat sedan is another reason 16-year-olds shouldn’t have all-access driver’s licenses. Bad idea.)

In the last couple years I’ve watched, along with other Honda fans, the cars grow heavier, bigger, uglier and less competitive than other sedans. I test-drove an Accord the last time I was in the market for a family car, but found it too big and too expensive for my needs. If my high-school Accord was that cavernous, I probably could’ve fit my seven friends inside with much less drama.

Considering some of the competition out there, including the Hyundai SonataToyota CamryKia Optima and Ford Fusion, it’s not surprising that Honda has acknowledged its slide and labeled recent Accord sales unsatisfactory.
