Dodge Wants to Be Pontiac, But Why?

I like to live in a world that makes sense, but sometimes that’s just not in the cards. An article over at Automotive News ran with the headline, “Can Dodge Rebuild Pontiac Excitement?

The headline alone leaves me with three questions:

  1. Why would Dodge want to rebuild from Pontiac’s ashes?
  2. Did Pontiac even have any real “excitement” after the 1969 GTO?
  3. Pontiac failed. Shouldn’t Dodge chart a new course?

The point of the article is that General Motors left some holes in the market when it shuttered Pontiac and Hummer, and FCA is primed to fill them with Dodge and Jeep.

Miss Pontiac? Blame Obama

I like the Blame Obama jokes. Politics aside, I love to hear about minuscule problems blamed on our president.

Tired of Nigerian e-mail scams? Blame Obama.

Burn your toast this morning? Blame Obama.

Hate the fact that you can no longer buy a new Pontiac G8 GXP, or any other new Pontiac? Blame Obama.

That last one might actually have some truth to it, if the president’s name is synonymous with the federal government and if former GM exec Bob Lutz is to be believed.

Old GM Factory Site to Become Car Condos and a Racetrack

Now here’s some creative thinking on a way to revitalize one of Michigan’s saddest relics of automotive history.

An 80-acre tract of land currently lies vacant in Pontiac, after once housing 4 GM factories. With no hope of returning the area to an automotive factory site, one determined businessman has plans to turn it into a buzzing metropolitan hub, but with a twist.

While many planned developments include some kind of park or other open recreational space, this one might include something way cooler:

A race track.
