I know, this column is usually all about new cars soon to hit showrooms and concepts that are creating a stir in the auto world.
Today, though, I’m excited (I think) to report that an American version of Britain’s TopGear is now shooting in California.
There are two ways of looking at this:
1. Why would TopGear mess with the genius that is the original and try to recreate it?
2. It’s about time America is allowed to step up and create a TopGear that can do justice to the original.
I’m hoping for option number 2, and judging from the guys who will be hosting, there’s a good chance it will do just that. Tanner Foust is on board for The History Channel’s take on TopGear America, along with Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood. Ferrara is probably one of the funniest comedians alive, so we should be in for greatness.
For more proof that TopGear America is for real, the guys at Kilometer Magazine seem to have happened across the set where Foust was monologuing next to the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Apparently, the first episode is shooting now!
TopGear America is scheduled to premiere this Fall… which is almost reason enough to hope summer flies by.
Do you think TopGear America will fly or flop?
