Anyone even remotely interested in sports knows by now about Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarrago’s perfect-game-that-wasn’t this week. Had it not been for one blown call by the umpire in the final out of the final inning, Galarrago would’ve had his perfect game go down in MLB’s annals.
Galarrago has been a class act about the whole thing, and was richly rewarded for his efforts at Thursday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians.
Since this isn’t a sports blog, you can probably guess that his prize was a car, but keep reading to see what kind he was given and by whom. Yes, the picture above is a big hint.
Plus, take a look at a quick video tribute to recently killed-off Mercury. You just might catch a glimpse of a hot Cougar…
Chevrolet and the Detroit Tigers rightly decided that Galarrago deserved something special, and drove a new Corvette behind home plate before presenting it to him. Even the ump who blew the call was emotional. Check it out:
Next we have a bit of an homage to Mercury. First is a really weird ad for the 2003 Marauder. You’d think a car with a 300-plus-horsepower V8 would be shown outside with a wide-open throttle on wide open roads. Instead, Mercury’s ad guys decided a parking garage was the best location choice. Then they threw in a really weird shimmy thing by two other cars at the end. The result is a car ad that doesn’t make much sense, but for some reason is still kind of cool.
Finally, Mercury’s ad for the 1975 Cougar XR7, featuring the late Farrah Fawcett, is priceless. Anyone else think the line “Catch a Cougar of your own,” would make an effective ad slogan for a Courtney Cox show? Good stuff.
