Will.i.am to Start New Car Company

Sometimes when people have more money than they can possibly spend they get crazy ideas.

Elon Musk wants to retire on Mars. Jay Leno keeps buying cars. Now, Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am has decided he has what it takes to start a car company.

The car you see above is the only peek we have into what his new car brand, called IAMAUTO, will look like. Is Mr. i.am on the right track, or is this another example of celebrity money gone wrong?

I happen to think this coupe looks like the old Chrysler TC by Maserati, but encased in a Lego shell. Did will.i.am even bother to hire car designers, or is this his own vision of what a car should look like? I don’t know the answer to that, but I do know that I have seen student designs that blow this one out of the water.

The singer-turned-would-be-auto-entrepreneur tells Jay Leno that the vehicle is built with Chrysler parts (likely a Dodge Challenger), and the sound system will be exceptional, as you might expect, with the help of some hardware supplied by Beats By Dre.

Will.i.am will build the vehicle in Los Angeles, his way to attempt to bring jobs back to the area he comes from. Of course, for that to happen, people have to buy this monstrosity. And a few will, to be sure, based on the names attached to it alone.

There’s no word yet on when production will start, how many he will build or what the cars will cost.

Would you buy Will.i.am’s upcoming coupe?

  1. I can’t think of anything better for trans-ghetto “entertainers” to do with their money than create a few jobs in the endless quest to satisfy their enormous egos. Sure beats buying a few Bentley’s or other foreign luxomobiles and stuffing them with cash to make press releases. I’ve always had the impression that for most of these folks (like Eminem and Kid Rock) cars like Ferraris and Lambos are too good for them anyway, and they need something tacky and inner city to look right in. This one sure fits the bill, although I think the wheels are a bit small and spinners would be nice.
