Rocker Slash Takes a Ride in Ultra-Expensive Porsche 918 Spyder

I’m not as lucky as Slash.

True, I’m not a rock star, I can’t shred on a Les Paul, and I don’t look quite as cool in a top hat. But even if I had all that, Slash would still make me jealous in one very important way: His Porsche contact apparently has a lot more influence than mine.

Sure, I’ve been lucky enough to drive the new Boxster S and the 991 911 Carrera S, but I haven’t had the privilege of being thrown around the track in a 918 Spyder.

According to his Twitter account, Slash recently had the pleasure.

The first Tweet announcing his ride went like this:

“Just had a few laps around the track in the new Porsche 918 Prototype. Un*******believable!”

I wonder how many Slash fans know that the 918 isn’t just another Porsche, but a hybrid supercar that uses a 4.6-liter midengine V8 to generate 580 hp along with a 125-hp electric motor out back and a 115-hp electric motor up front. The 918 is a supercar that should cost upwards of $800,000 and redefine the world of supercars.

Perhaps sensing his fans might not understand the gravity of this car, Slash Tweeted a picture and said:

“Here’s the Porsche 918 Hybrid Supercar. 140 characters are not enough to express how unreal this car is.”

A nice picture, but it still doesn’t tell fans much about the car. Then Slash said something surprising:

“Thanks to my friend Scott from Porsche Atlanta for the ride in the 918! It’s a bitchin’ car no doubt. But I’m a loyal Aston man.”

Hey, I like Aston Martin as much as anyone, but come on, man, show some respect to the 918! Or introduce me to your friend Scott! After that Tweet, though, Slash redeemed himself:

“That said, the Porsche Hybrid 918 is going to change the Supercar industry. A genius piece of automotive technology & design.”

With that statement, he’s absolutely right. Rock on, Slash.

What one supercar would you like some track time in?

  1. A Lotus Elise! Sure he base model is only equipped with a 1.8 liter engine making 189 horses which may not sound like much, but this car weighs only 1900 pounds, so I can expect a 0-60 time of less than 6 seconds…..OH YEAH!!!!
