If you’ve never heard of the Troller T4, it might be time for you to copy and paste that name into a Google search and then marvel at the images staring back at you.
The Troller is a boxy off-roader sold in Brazil and built by a company now owned by Ford. For fans of the Jeep Wrangler, Land Rover Defender, and Ford Bronco, the Troller might look like the fantasy car you never knew existed.
And get this: One source has said the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco will look like the Troller, but “a 4-door version of that.”
How excited are you right now?
The Ford Bronco has a cult-like following, the members of which have clamored for a modern version since the SUV’s 1996 demise. When news broke that a new Bronco would indeed return along with the all-new Ranger, speculators worried that it would come back in name only and be nothing more than a compact crossover.
Since Ford hasn’t given official word yet, that’s still possible. However, one anonymous source who claims to be close to the engineering on the Bronco project is giving tantalizing hints of what to expect.
Auto Evolution said,
At the present moment, the unnamed Ford engineer claims the Bronco is in the third design phase. “If you’re familiar with the Troller, out of Brazil, that’s the basic concept, but it’ll look like a four-door version of that.” The automaker apparently doesn’t have plans on offering a two-door model because “there’s just no market for it.” Reading between the lines, competition from Jeep is stiff, and Ford is playing it safe.
That same source said to expect a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 for power, along with a removable modular roof, and the ability to wade through 19.7 inches of water.
It appears that Ford has the Wrangler Unlimited firmly in its crosshairs, but we’ll wait for official confirmation before we get too excited.
