That’s probably not going to happen.
A love, and a need, for cars will continue to dominate the landscape, even as younger folks grow into mature, car-buying adults.
The Honda Civic has evolved into a practical and conservative form of transportation meant for folks who simply need a compact car that promises years of trouble-free existence.
The Civic doesn’t promise overly good looks or finely tuned driving dynamics. It doesn’t boast about acceleration numbers or compare horsepower ratings with competing cars. What it does do is offer good fuel economy and a comfortable, pleasant driving experience for the commute to work.
The Civic Type R, though, is a different beast. While it still wears the Civic name, the Type R is a formidable road racer that should instill fear into the hearts of any neighboring car at a stoplight.

Today we have good news and bad news for you.
Here’s the bad:
If you live in the United States, you can’t buy the 2016 Honda Civic Type R. That’s bad news because the Type R is more than just a spiffed-up Civic. It’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter direct-injected VTEC 4-cylinder speed demon that spits out 310 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque at just 2,500 rpm. It comes only with a 6-speed manual and can rocket from 0 to 62 in 5.7 seconds while on its way to a top speed of 167 mph.
The car is based on the European Civic, which differs from the U.S. version, so there’s no chance it will be sold here.
But here’s the good news:
The 2018 version will.
