Do You Own One of the Most Unreliable Cars?

How badly would you feel if you spent tens of thousands of dollars on a car, only to have it in for repairs nearly as often as you spend behind the wheel?

People buy certain brands for their known reliability, but even some of those aren’t exempted from a new article about the 20 most unreliable cars from Consumer Reports.

Interestingly enough, nowhere on the list are those vehicles traditionally panned for their unreliability. There are no Jaguars, and there are no Land Rovers. There aren’t even any electrics.

The list is dominated by American brands, with a few Japanese and Korean brands, and is made up of sports cars, SUVs, economy cars, and luxury cars.

Below are some of the more surprising vehicles on the list. Do you own one?

Honda and Acura are virtually synonyms for quality and reliability. The 17th most unreliable car, however, is the Acura TLX. CarComplaints says,

2015 Acura TLX owners just want a transmission that can get from 1st to 5th gear without feeling like a washing machine full of bricks.

That’s pretty harsh, and comes after a recall that addressed an issue of not being able to shift into Park.

Electronic gremlins have long been a problem for Mercedes-Benz, and those combined with a steering recall were enough to put the C-Class in 20th place.

The Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade all are on the list because of issues with their transmissions, drive systems, and electronics. These vehicles have been recalled for power steering problems, transfer case problems, transmission problems, and engine cooling problems. How badly do you need that people mover?

Transmissions seem to be a common source of problems, and the Nissan Murano is no exception. That combined with electronic problems and a recall on the antilock brake system pegged the Murano as the 9th most unreliable car.

You might also want to think twice about buying a new Corvette. Problems with the engine (complete failure in some cases), electronics, and climate control systems were enough to label the new Corvette the 5th most unreliable car available today.

First place, to ease your suspense, is the Fiat 500L. Problems have been reported with the transmission, brakes, electronics, and clutch, along with ample reports of noises and leaks.
