People buy sports cars for two reasons:
- They want the adrenalin rush only a sports car can provide.
- They want to look good in front of friends and members of the opposite sex.
Many of the offerings for 2011 satisfy both requirements with the kind of style that turns heads and the kind of acceleration that’ll pin yours against the headrest.
Rest assured, you’ll only find true sports cars on this list. No Mustangs, no Camaros, and certainly no Honda CR-Zs. Feel free to have your say in the comments section.
For 2011, Aston Martin wedged a V12 engine into its smallest car, creating a 510-hp superbeast that is truly the best looking vehicle on the road.
Audi R8 Spyder
The R8 coupe is a fine-looking car, but chop off the roof and it becomes downright beautiful. But it’s the 525-horsepower, 5.2-liter V10 engine that earns it a spot on this list.
A jagged, angular, supercharged wedge of pure almost-affordable pleasure. Enough said.
Gull-wing doors and a 563-hp V8 give the SLS AMG a classic look combined with modern asphalt-attacking performance.
Porsche Boxster Spyder
Rear-wheel drive and a midengine 3.4-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder making 320 horsepower. Simply can’t go wrong with this one!
In honor of GM’s successful stock offering this week, we present the fastest production GM car of all time. With a 638-hp supercharged LS9 engine and a top speed of 205 mph, there’s no reason the ultimate ‘Vette shouldn’t be on any serious buyer’s shopping list.
What do you consider the ultimate sports car, offered as a 2011 model or not?
