With Halloween around the corner, CarGurus investigated some discontinued car models to find whether or not there were any “zombie cars” lurking around the website. Sure enough, we discovered that while most vehicles experience a drop-off in customer interest once they’ve been discontinued, some stick around, generating plenty of interest while haunting our listing pages.
That’s a phrase that should never be uttered, regardless of circumstances. I called a friend yesterday, asked him what he was doing and he said, “Just driving.”
That got me thinking. This is a world filled with two types of people: those who love to drive and those who have to drive. If you’re behind the wheel, and the phone rings, I hope you’re the kind of person who doesn’t even notice because you’re so in tune with your car and your driving.
I hope you’re NOT the kind of person who is able to fumble for the phone, turn on Bluetooth, answer and say that you’re “just driving.”

Mazda might be doing some cool things right now, but I wonder what would happen if it looked into its past. Specifically, I think Mazda should point the rear-view mirror back to 1988 and create a modern version of the 323 GTX AWD.
Back in the mid-1980s, Mazda experimented with Group A rally racing, which meant its race car needed to have a production version with at least 5,000 copies available to the public.
The resulting vehicle should have been a superstar.
Instead it languished in the U.S. market and sold just over 1,400 copies over 2 years. The rest, presumably, were sold overseas, and the 323 GTX got axed after the 1989 model year.
As Mazda gears up for an all-new brand campaign, I think the time is right to resurrect the car that really should’ve become a legend.
