Mitsubishi Will Bring Back the Eclipse… In Name Only

If you were a teenager in the 1990s, there’s a good chance you wanted to own a Mitsubishi Eclipse. More than likely, it was the Eclipse Spyder that caught your eye and teased you with thoughts of sun-soaked road trips and the admiration of all your friends.

“One day,” you thought, “I’ll own one of those cars.”

Who wouldn’t want that sleek sports car with exotic looks and an affordable price tag?

The Eclipse was one of my teenage dream cars. However, if the 1995 me jumped ahead to 2017 and read about Mitsubishi’s plans for the Eclipse, the old me would be beside himself.

“They’re doing WHAT to the Eclipse?” Continue reading >>>

Why GM Might Not Want to Sell You a Malibu

Maybe the people at General Motors aren’t used to selling a lot Malibus.

For as long as I can remember, cars like the Malibu and Impala existed just to provide an option for the very few people who wanted a sedan but simply had to have a Chevy.

GM’s bread-and-butter vehicles have always been its full-size trucks, SUVs, and, more recently, crossovers. The profit margins on those rigs are much higher than on sedans and small cars, so the company doesn’t like to push its smaller vehicles too hard.

Some recent redesigns have turned Chevy’s cars, the Malibu and Cruze specifically, into genuinely competitive vehicles. Much to GM’s dismay, consumers are noticing. Continue reading >>>

You don’t need to wait for Sunday to see the best part of the Super Bowl. Sure, the Patriots and Falcons will deliver an epic game of back-and-forth offensive warfare, but honestly the best time to get up and use the restroom is just before the next commercial break.

Automakers love to showcase their creative talents and introduce new vehicles and marketing campaigns while virtually everyone in the world is tuned in to the greatest sports show on Earth.

This year, ads from Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, Kia, Honda, Buick, and more have already been released. A common theme this year? Activism.

America’s Car of Choice: British?

Jaguar I-Pace

British cars were once known in the United States as being luxurious but notoriously unreliable. Think about the 1990s era Jaguars, any Land Rover sold before 2008, and the exceptional cost of maintaining Aston Martins.

Sales were limited to people who were willing to deal with electrical gremlins and frequent repair visits in exchange for some prestige and exclusivity.

Today the British brands have turned things around and the American car-buying public has taken notice. Or have they? Continue reading >>>

Are You Less Safe in a Hybrid Car?

I’ve heard from more car shoppers than I can count over the years asking for advice on purchasing a new car. Yesterday a question was asked that no one had previously brought up to me.

The shopper is in the market for a new 2017 hybrid or plug-in hybrid SUV. She drives a lot, lives in an area known for epic snowfall, and has had her share of scary incidents while on the road. Naturally, she wants something safe and reliable that goes at least a few miles on electric power to save a few bucks on gas.

Considering the close calls she’s had while driving, she asked me if rescue workers are able to use the Jaws of Life on hybrid and electric vehicles. She’d heard a rumor that first responders won’t extract people stuck in such vehicles due to risks of electrocution from cutting into high-voltage lines.

Could that rumor be true? Continue reading >>>
