Can an Electric SUV Save Mitsubishi?

When a car company begins to flounder, it has three options:

  1. Keep doing the same things and hope sales come back.
  2. Plan to substantially upgrade cars and add models to the lineup.
  3. Go electric.

Mitsubishi is the definition of floundering in the U.S. market. With Suzuki out of the picture, Mitsubishi is next in line to pull out. The automaker, though, has stood firm on its plans to commit to keep selling cars here, and it seems it has chosen option 3 as its plan of action.

Our Holiday Wish List

With the exception of last weekend (when Mother Nature decided the first day of winter should be celebrated in flip flops and T-shirts), this year’s holiday season has been a pretty ordinary one: Malls have been packed, colorful lights strung all over, and kids have been hard at work clearing landing strips for a certain jolly old man and his team of reindeer from the North Pole (before the heat melted all the snow, that is).

Just a few weeks ago, we talked about all the cars we couldn’t wait to see in 2014. But what about the cars we can get right now? While 2014’s cars certainly seem amazing, there are many, many cars already out that we’d love to find in our driveways. After much deliberation, we came up with a list of the 10 cars we’d like Santa to put on his sleigh and leave in Harvard Square for us.

This Was My Father’s Oldsmobile

Yesterday, in the course of my adventures, I overheard one sentence from someone’s conversation. It was one of those moments when you walk past someone, hear a snippet of what they said, and spend the rest of the day thinking about it.

This is what I heard:

“It’s not your father’s Oldsmobile.”

That’s it. I have no idea what the context of the conversation was or what was said directly before or after. I heard only that one phrase.

It triggered memories from many moons ago of ads that attempted to sell the “modern” Oldsmobiles as less stodgy and more hip than the Olds cars of the past.

The campaign obviously wasn’t all that effective, considering the brand ceased to exist soon after. I have a theory as to why: I think the ads were right. Those newer cars weren’t my dad’s Oldsmobile.

My dad’s was way better.

10 Best Cars to Tackle Winter

Last updated: Nov 25, 2019 at 4:29PM

As we saw this past week, snow and ice can be quite a drag when you need to get somewhere—especially when half the country does at the same time. With Winter Storm Boreas hitting just in time for the Thanksgiving travel rush, we got to thinking about just which cars we’d prefer to take out in extreme winter conditions. Some of them are practical, some are sensible, and others are downright nuts—but they’re all cars we’d love to be in when the white stuff starts falling.

Being grateful goes so beyond stuffing our faces with turkey and marshmallow-encrusted yams.

We’d like to take a moment and express our gratitude for our readers, car shoppers, blog commenters, car dealers and generally awesome CarGurus who visit our site each day. It’s the expertise and experience of each person who participates on this blog and the CarGurus site who keep the steady flow of news, opinions, reviews and car listings going every day.

We love cars. We love everything about the culture of cars and we’re thankful to be surrounded by a community of people who think the same way.

Whether you prefer the sounds and smells of a ’74 Porsche, gravitate toward the comfort and luxury of a ’14 Lexus or appreciate the adrenaline rush of any Lamborghini, you’re our people. Thank you for the years of love, we hope you feel loved back and we’re excited for many more to come.

You may now commence said face-stuffing.

Happy Thanksgiving!
